Travel Guide

Plan a thoughtful trip

What you need to know before you go.

Best Time to Visit

October to April generally offers clear skies and pleasant temperatures across the Siang Valley. Monsoon months (June–September) bring lush greenery but heavy rain and possible road disruptions.

Weather

Cool to cold winters and mild summers in the hills. Mountain weather changes quickly across the upper Siang — carry layers and a windproof shell year-round.

Packing Tips

Layered clothing, a warm jacket, rainproof shell, sturdy walking shoes, sunscreen, a reusable bottle and basic medicines.

Safety Tips

Travel with a local guide on remote routes, respect community customs and Buddhist sites, do not litter, and check road conditions before driving.

Local Cuisine

Smoked meats, river fish, fermented bamboo shoot, leafy greens and rice form the heart of Adi cuisine. Try apong (rice beer) where offered.

Accommodation

Homestays, guest houses and small hotels are available in main towns of the Siang belt. Book ahead in peak months.

Travel Essentials

Inner Line Permit (ILP) is required for most visitors to Arunachal Pradesh — verify current rules before travel.

Frontier Travel

Tuting, Gelling and the upper Siang lie close to the international boundary. Carry identity proof at all times and follow local advisories.
